Business Registration Cost Estimator

Add up the one-time formation fees and the recurring annual costs of registering a business, using the figures that apply in your own jurisdiction.

This tool is general information, not legal advice. Registration fees, rules, and entity types vary by jurisdiction — always confirm with your government business registry and a licensed attorney.

Fees vary widely by state and entity type — enter the figures for your own jurisdiction. Leave any that do not apply at zero.

How the estimate is built

The calculator sorts the fees you enter into two buckets. One-time formation costs — the filing fee, name reservation, publication, licences and permits, and any professional help — are summed into a one-time total. Costs that repeat each year, such as a registered agent and an annual report, are summed into a recurring annual total.

The first-year total adds both buckets, so you can see roughly what it takes to open the doors and keep the registration alive through year one. Because every figure is one you supply, the estimate is only as accurate as the fees you look up for your own jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What costs go into registering a business?

Typical one-time costs include the state or government filing fee, an optional name-reservation fee, any publication requirement, licence and permit fees, and professional or attorney fees. Recurring costs often include a registered-agent service and an annual report or renewal fee. This tool totals whichever of these you enter.

Why doesn't the tool fill in the fees for me?

Because there is no single answer. Formation fees differ by country, state or province, and the type of entity you form, and they change over time. Rather than assert one jurisdiction's figures as if they applied everywhere, the calculator asks you to enter the fees that actually apply where you are registering.

What is the difference between the one-time and recurring totals?

The one-time total covers costs you pay once to form the business (filing, name reservation, publication, licences, professional help). The recurring annual total covers costs you keep paying each year, such as a registered agent and an annual report. The first-year total simply adds the two together.

Is this a complete quote for starting a business?

No. It is a planning estimate limited to the figures you enter and does not include taxes, insurance, ongoing compliance, or advice on which entity type is right for you. Confirm the required fees with your government business registry and speak to a licensed attorney or accountant before you file.
